At the international military-technical forum “Army-2024”, a wide array of anti-drone technologies was showcased, reflecting the growing urgency of countering UAV threats in contemporary warfare. This year's event, held at the Patriot Convention and Exhibition Center, featured innovative products designed for both physical destruction and electronic suppression of drones, highlighting advancements in military technology.
One of the standout products was the prototype under-barrel shotgun developed by Sakhatech Arms, specifically designed to target small-sized UAVs. According to Dmitry Popov, director of Sakhatech Arms, the shotgun utilizes standard 12/76 caliber cartridges, which are already familiar to troops engaged in combat. This new design allows military personnel to eliminate the need to carry a secondary weapon, as it can be easily attached to standard AK rifles, providing a more efficient means of drone defense.
The shotgun boasts two barrels and an ergonomic grip, with a lightweight design similar to the army grenade launcher GP-25. Its effective firing range is between 15-30 meters, making it a practical solution for ground forces. Additionally, Sakhatech Arms is working on a compact anti-aircraft gun that will utilize delayed detonation cartridges to create a destructive cloud around UAVs, enhancing ground defense capabilities.
Another notable development presented at Army-2024 was the Pantsir-SMD-E air defense system, tailored for civilian protection against drone attacks. This system, devoid of cannon armaments, features advanced radar and fire control systems, capable of detecting and neutralizing threats at varying distances. The introduction of mini-missiles enhances its effectiveness, allowing it to engage multiple targets simultaneously.
Rostec also unveiled the modernized Lesochek electronic warfare system, which not only protects vehicles from explosive devices but can also jam navigation and control channels of commercial UAVs. This dual functionality underscores the importance of electronic warfare in modern military strategy.
Experts have noted the increasing relevance of anti-drone technologies, driven by the ongoing conflict and the need to safeguard critical infrastructure. The diverse range of exhibits at Army-2024 demonstrates the rapid advancements in domestic military capabilities, focusing on innovative solutions for countering UAV threats without incurring significant costs.
As military observers emphasize, the shift towards specialized anti-drone systems marks a significant evolution in warfare tactics, ensuring that armed forces are better equipped to handle the challenges posed by small-sized drones. The innovations showcased at Army-2024 are expected to be integrated into military operations and civil defense strategies in the near future.
