Three Men Indicted for Illegal Weapons Possession Linked to Far Right
In a significant legal development, three men, including a father and son duo affiliated with the far-right movement, were indicted for illegal possession of weapons in France. The arrests took place on Thursday, with the indictments announced on Friday by the Villefranche-sur-Saône public prosecutor's office. The individuals are facing serious charges, including possession of high-capacity and war weapons, which are strictly prohibited without special authorization.
The investigation, led by the Rhône judicial police, uncovered a cache of firearms at the suspects' homes in Thizy, Vienne, and the Loire. The prosecutor, Laetitia Francart, confirmed that dozens of weapons were seized during the operation, highlighting the gravity of the situation. The father, aged 59, and his 29-year-old son are reportedly members of the Rhone section of Equality and Reconciliation, an association founded by controversial far-right figure Alain Soral.
Lyon, known as a stronghold for radical far-right activism, has seen a crackdown on local extremist groups, with several being dissolved by the government in recent years. This latest incident raises concerns about the ongoing presence and activities of far-right elements in the region.
Couple Indicted for Double Murder in Douarnenez
In a separate and disturbing case, a couple has been indicted for the murders of two men in Douarnenez, Finistère. The suspects, aged 26, were arrested following a violent incident that occurred on November 9, where both victims were fatally stabbed. The Brest prosecutor's office reported that the couple had a prior history of violence and had been in the company of the victims the night before the murders.
The investigation revealed that the victims, aged 44 and 61, were attacked with a bladed weapon, resulting in multiple stab wounds. The police discovered one victim outside the apartment, while the other was found inside the burned flat. The couple faces serious charges, including murder and destruction of property, and could potentially face life imprisonment if convicted.
The case has drawn attention due to the violent nature of the crime and the background of the victims, one of whom was known to have connections to drug trafficking. The investigation continues as authorities seek to piece together the events leading up to this tragic incident.
