Pierre Palmade Sentenced to Five Years in Prison Following Drug-Related Accident
Pierre Palmade, the 56-year-old French comedian, has been sentenced to five years in prison, with two years to be served immediately, following a serious road accident that occurred on February 10, 2023. The Melun court found him guilty of unintentionally causing injuries to a family while driving under the influence of drugs. The incident resulted in severe injuries to three individuals: a 38-year-old man, his six-year-old son, and his 27-year-old sister-in-law, who tragically lost her unborn child due to the collision.
The public prosecutor's office in Bordeaux has stated that Palmade will be summoned within a month to begin serving his sentence. During this meeting, he will be informed of the penitentiary facility where he will be incarcerated, as well as the specific date and time for his reporting. The actual incarceration is expected to occur within four months of this initial meeting. Additionally, Palmade has the option to request a sentence adjustment once he is incarcerated, which will be evaluated by a sentencing judge in a hearing involving the public prosecutor and prison administration representatives.
Prosecution's Stance on the Case
During the trial, the prosecution emphasized the severity of the incident, requesting a five-year sentence, two years of which were to be served without suspension. Prosecutor Marie-Denise Pichonnier highlighted the need for accountability, stating, "We cannot be too lenient when the damage has been done and when driving under the influence of drugs has caused a tragedy." The court's decision reflects the serious nature of the charges, which included aggravated involuntary injuries, and aims to address the impact of Palmade's actions on the victims and their families.
