Qatar Mediates Humanitarian Efforts in Ukraine-Russia Conflict
On October 25, 2024, Qatar hosted a Ukrainian delegation led by Dmytro Lubinets, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Ukrainian Parliament. The discussions, facilitated by Minister of State for International Cooperation, Lolwah Al-Khater, centered around humanitarian assistance for civilians and the exchange of messages from Russian-Ukrainian prisoners of war. Al-Khater emphasized Qatar's commitment to supporting peaceful resolutions in accordance with international law and humanitarian principles.
During the meeting, Al-Khater highlighted the importance of communication channels established through the exchange of lists of missing soldiers and messages from POWs, which serve as vital support for families affected by the ongoing conflict. This meeting follows Qatar's previous successful mediation efforts, including the return of six children to Ukraine in May 2024 and the exchange of 48 displaced children last April. Qatar's role as a mediator has garnered acceptance from both Russia and Ukraine, showcasing its dedication to protecting civilian safety and reuniting families affected by the war.
