Celebrating the Reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral
The reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris is set to be a monumental event, marked by two unique artistic contributions. On December 7, 2024, the diocese of Paris will host a spectacular sound and light show created by visual artist Jérémy Bellot and his AV Extended team. This ten-minute performance will feature a stunning projection mapping on the cathedral's façade, utilizing 30 powerful video projectors to create a visual feast that honors the cathedral's rich heritage.
Bellot, who transformed the Château de Beaugency into a digital arts center, expressed his excitement about delivering a contemporary show that resonates with the collective emotion of the occasion. The performance will include elements such as a radial symbol and a tribute to the reliquary, culminating in a moment described by Bellot as a "moment of grace."
A Sweet Tribute by Valrhona
In a delightful addition to the celebrations, Drôme-based chocolatier Valrhona has crafted a giant chocolate replica of Notre-Dame Cathedral. Measuring 2.2 meters long and 1.4 meters high, this monumental piece was installed at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport as part of the festivities. The project, which took over 3,000 hours to complete, was inspired by a previous chocolate spire created for an exhibition.
Executive pastry chef Thierry Bridron led the effort, coordinating with architect Philippe Velu to ensure the chocolate model accurately reflected the cathedral's dimensions. This chocolate cathedral is not only a centerpiece for the reopening but will also be showcased at various chocolate fairs across France.
A Historic Moment for Paris
The reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral represents a significant moment in Paris's cultural landscape. With the combination of Bellot's innovative sound and light show and Valrhona's exquisite chocolate sculpture, the event promises to be a celebration of art, heritage, and community spirit. As the world watches, these artistic expressions will serve as a reminder of the resilience and beauty of one of France's most cherished landmarks.
