Marine Le Pen Criticizes Kylian Mbappé's Political Comments
Le Pen's Response to Mbappé's Call for Voting
The leader of the National Rally, Marine Le Pen, criticized the French football team captain, Kylian Mbappé, for his political statements. During a press conference on Thursday evening, Mbappé urged citizens to 'vote for the right side' in the second round of the legislative elections. Le Pen expressed her disapproval on Friday, stating, 'The French are tired of being given moral lessons, of being given voting instructions.'
Actors and Athletes in Politics
Le Pen, speaking to CNN International, acknowledged Mbappé as a 'very good footballer' but criticized the trend of celebrities, including actors, footballers, and singers, advising the public on political matters. 'This tendency for actors, footballers, and singers to come and tell the French what they should vote for is starting to be very badly felt in our country,' she added.
Calls for Reserve from Wealthy Celebrities
Le Pen emphasized that wealthy celebrities, especially those living abroad, should refrain from giving political advice to those earning modest incomes. 'These people who are lucky enough to live well, very well even, to be protected from insecurity, poverty, unemployment... I think they should maintain a form of reserve,' she insisted.
RN Spokesperson's Remarks
Laurent Jacobelli, spokesperson for the National Rally, echoed Le Pen's sentiments on TF1. He stated, 'I will certainly not go onto a pitch to give advice as a coach, I believe that everyone should stay in their place.' Jacobelli emphasized that Mbappé's focus should be on his role in the French national team, representing all French citizens regardless of their political affiliations.
