Lebrun Brothers Shine at European Table Tennis Championships
The Lebrun brothers, Alexis and Félix, have made significant strides at the European Table Tennis Championships held in Linz, Austria. Alexis secured his place in the semi-finals of the singles competition after defeating the defending champion, Germany's Dang Qiu, with a score of 4-1. This victory came shortly after his younger brother Félix, a favorite in the tournament, was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Benedikt Duda, also from Germany, in a closely contested match that ended 4-3. Despite Félix's exit, Alexis is guaranteed at least a bronze medal and is set to face Sweden's Truls Moregard in the semi-finals on Sunday.
In the doubles category, the brothers have also excelled, reaching the finals after a dominant performance in the semi-finals against the Austro-Moldovan pair of Maciej Kolodziejczyk and Vladislav Ursu, winning in just three sets (11-5, 11-9, 11-3). This victory ensures them at least a bronze medal, but they are aiming for gold, having already secured a bronze in the previous championship. The final will see them go head-to-head with the Swedish duo of Mattias Falck and Kristian Karlsson.
Strong Performances and Future Aspirations
The Lebrun brothers, who are 21 and 18 years old respectively, are making waves in the table tennis scene, especially with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on the horizon. They have already showcased their prowess by defeating higher-ranked opponents, and their journey in Linz has solidified their status as rising stars in the sport. Both brothers are also competing in the singles quarter-finals, with Alexis set to face Duda and Félix taking on Andre Bertelsmeier from Germany.
As they prepare for their upcoming matches, the Lebrun brothers are not only focused on their individual performances but are also keen to support each other in their quests for gold. Their remarkable achievements at the European Championships highlight their potential to become key players in the upcoming Olympics.
