Alexis Lebrun Shines in European Table Tennis Championships
French table tennis player Alexis Lebrun has made headlines by qualifying for the singles final of the European Championships held in Linz, Austria. Ranked 19th in the world, Lebrun achieved a remarkable victory over Swedish Olympic vice-champion Truls Moregard with a decisive score of 4-0 (12-10, 11-5, 11-5, 11-6). This win sets him up for a final match against Germany's Benedikt Duda, who recently eliminated Lebrun's younger brother, Félix, in the quarter-finals.
In addition to his singles success, Alexis Lebrun, alongside his brother Félix, has also reached the final in the men's doubles category. The duo, both ranked 7th in the world, secured their place in the final by defeating the Austro-Moldovan pair of Maciej Kolodziejczyk and Vladislav Ursu in straight sets (11-5, 11-9, 11-3). They previously captured a bronze medal by beating Belgian Cedric Nuytinck and Slovakian Lubomir Pistej in the quarter-finals. The Lebrun brothers will face the Swedish team of Mattias Falck and Kristian Karlsson in the doubles final, promising an exciting day ahead for the French contingent.
Historic Opportunities for the Lebrun Brothers
At just 21 years old, Alexis Lebrun has the chance to become the third French player to win the European Championship in singles, following in the footsteps of Emmanuel Lebesson (2016) and Jacques Secrétin (1976). His impressive performance marks a significant improvement from his previous European Championships appearance in Munich, where he was eliminated in the last 16 by Kristian Karlsson. Meanwhile, Félix, aged 18, is also making a name for himself on the international stage, having reached the quarter-finals in the singles tournament before facing Duda. The success of the Lebrun brothers not only highlights their individual talents but also showcases the strength of French table tennis on the European stage.
