Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called for the strict implementation of the Astana formula to address the Syrian crisis, emphasizing cooperation with Turkey and Iran.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called for the strict implementation of the Astana formula as a framework for addressing the ongoing Syrian crisis. Speaking in an interview, Lavrov expressed deep concern over the recent developments in Syria, particularly in Aleppo, and emphasized the need for cooperation among key players, including Turkey and Iran. He announced plans to organize a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan and Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in Doha to discuss the implementation of the Idlib agreements and the reopening of the M5 highway from Damascus to Aleppo, which has been seized by opposition forces.

Lavrov highlighted the complexity of the situation in Syria, noting the involvement of multiple actors and the necessity of cutting off financing and arms supplies to the armed opposition. He accused the United States of supporting separatist movements in eastern Syria, which he believes undermines efforts for a unified approach to the crisis. Additionally, Lavrov mentioned concerns regarding Israel's potential interest in escalating tensions in Syria to distract from issues in Gaza.
