Kremlin Responds to Potential Putin-Trump Meeting
The Kremlin has stated that there are currently no prerequisites for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for Putin, emphasized that there have been "no real impulses yet" regarding the organization of such a meeting. This comment comes in response to Trump's expressed eagerness to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine with Putin.
Trump Expresses Hope for Dialogue
During a recent event at the Turning Point AmericaFest 2024, Trump mentioned his desire to meet with Putin, stating, "President Putin said he wants to meet with me as soon as possible. So we're going to look forward to that, we've got to end this war." Trump criticized the current administration under President Joe Biden for failing to prevent the conflict, asserting that he could have negotiated a better outcome.
Putin Open to Communication
In a previous press conference, Putin indicated that if a meeting with Trump were to occur, there would be significant topics to discuss. He acknowledged that while it is premature to set a date for a meeting, Moscow remains open to dialogue with Washington. Putin remarked, "I haven't spoken to him at all for more than four years. I am ready for this, of course, at any time and will be ready for a meeting if he wants it." He also reiterated Russia's willingness for negotiations, criticizing Kyiv and its Western allies for rejecting diplomatic solutions.
