Khaled Youssef and Shalimar Sharbatly Summoned in Omar Zahran Case
The ongoing legal saga surrounding Egyptian director Omar Zahran has taken a new turn as the Giza Misdemeanor Court has summoned Saudi artist Shalimar Sharbatly and her husband, director Khaled Youssef, to testify in the case accusing Zahran of stealing valuable gold jewelry. The trial, which has been adjourned until December 10, has seen Zahran's defense team, including prominent lawyer Mortada Mansour, argue for the release of Zahran's phone, claiming it contains threatening messages exchanged between Zahran and Youssef.
Zahran, who is currently detained at the central prison on the Alexandria Desert Road, faces serious allegations stemming from a report filed by Sharbatly, who accused him of stealing jewelry from her Giza apartment. The prosecution alleges that Zahran exploited his friendship with the couple to commit the theft, allegedly in collusion with a cleaner. The defense has requested temporary civil compensation of one million pounds, asserting that the case is based on a false report.
During the proceedings, Zahran's health issues were highlighted, with his defense team arguing for bail due to his deteriorating condition, which includes heart disease and diabetes. However, the court denied this request, opting to continue his detention. The case has attracted significant media attention, with the defense promising to unveil surprises in the upcoming sessions.
