Jin Completes Military Service: BTS Reunited for Celebration
Jin, the oldest member of the renowned K-Pop group BTS, has successfully completed his mandatory military service in South Korea, becoming the first among his bandmates to do so. After 18 months of service, Jin was emotionally welcomed back by his fellow BTS members at the Yeoncheon military base in Gyeonggi province. The moment was marked by a special saxophone performance of their popular hit 'Dynamite' by RM, another member of the group.
The occasion was witnessed by a limited number of fans and media personnel, as safety concerns prevented a larger gathering. Jin connected with millions of fans globally through a heartfelt livestream on Weverse, expressing his gratitude for the experiences and relationships he built during his time in the military.
South Korea mandates military service for all able-bodied men, typically between the ages of 18 and 28. However, legislation passed in 2020 allowed globally recognized K-Pop stars like BTS to defer their service until they turn 30. Jin enlisted in December 2022 and after completing his duty, plans to reunite with the rest of BTS in 2025 once all members have completed their service obligations. Until then, the group is taking a hiatus from collective musical activities.
Beyond music, BTS members have established themselves as prominent fashion icons and activists. They have collaborated with luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Valentino, and Dior, and have also been advocates for Asian representation and against anti-Asian hate crimes, notably visiting the White House to discuss these issues in 2022.
Fitness enthusiasts fondly remember Jin's disciplined approach during his service term, which earned him accolades within and outside the military. Located 40 kilometers north of Seoul, Yeoncheon base saw other BTS members taking leave to join Jin's discharge ceremony, highlighting their strong bond and ongoing commitment to their military duties. The band's return in 2025 is highly anticipated by fans worldwide.
- Jin's return marks a significant milestone for fans and the entertainment industry alike. HYBE, BTS's managing agency, announced plans for a special event in Seoul to celebrate Jin’s discharge. Selected through a raffle, 1,000 fans will have the unique opportunity to personally embrace Jin in a ‘huggathon’ event at the Jamsil sports complex.
- Further highlighting their impact, BTS members have individually taken on significant roles in the fashion industry. Suga and Jimin lead campaigns for Valentino and Dior, respectively. These engagements reflect BTS's broad influence and the immense popularity they enjoy even while fulfilling their military duties.
- K-pop analysts note that Jin’s smooth completion of military service is a positive signal for the entertainment sector's stock prices. HYBE has observed a 2% rise in stocks, with speculations that Jin’s upcoming solo activities will continue to benefit the company’s financial health.
- With their military obligations staggered, the next BTS member expected to be discharged is J-hope in October. As all seven members complete their service by June 2025, fans eagerly await BTS's full-force return to the global stage.
