Israeli Army's Jabalia Operation Expected to Last Six Months
According to a report from Yedioth Ahronoth, the Israeli army has initiated a strategic operation in Jabalia, a significant area in the northern Gaza Strip. This operation, which is expected to last approximately six months, aims to separate Jabalia from the rest of the Gaza Strip. The military has created a new axis that runs about five kilometers south of the northern Gaza border, effectively isolating Jabalia and neighboring towns from Gaza City. As part of this military strategy, Israeli forces have expanded their presence along this axis, deploying advanced facial recognition technology to monitor residents moving towards Gaza City.
Israeli military officials have indicated that the operation is a
limited version
of the Generals' Plan, which reportedly seeks to control northern Gaza by displacing residents southward, imposing a blockade, and utilizing starvation as a means to exert pressure on the population. This plan is perceived as a direct effort to dismantle what the Israeli army considers the core of Hamas's operational infrastructure in the region.
Humanitarian Concerns Amid Military Operations
The ongoing military campaign has raised significant humanitarian concerns, particularly regarding the lack of medical supplies in northern Gaza hospitals, which are struggling to treat casualties from the ongoing bombardment. Yedioth Ahronoth reported that, under intense pressure from the United States, the Israeli army has lifted the siege on Jabalia and resumed humanitarian aid deliveries. However, relief organizations have expressed skepticism about the monitoring of these aid shipments, raising questions about the adequacy and distribution of the assistance provided to the beleaguered residents.
The Israeli army has claimed that the residents of Jabalia have enough food supplies to last for about a month, although the situation remains dire following weeks of intense military action that began on October 5, when the Israeli forces launched unprecedented bombardments in northern Gaza, aiming to prevent Hamas from re-establishing its operational capabilities.
