Escalation of Conflict: Israel's Air Strikes on Beirut and Hezbollah's Counterattacks
Israel has intensified its military operations, launching air strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut and various locations in Lebanon at dawn on Sunday. This latest round of attacks includes bombings in the city of Tyre and the targeting of specific areas such as Deir Amas and Al-Bayadh. Reports indicate extensive material damage, with one building in the Tahwitat al-Ghadeer area being hit, and a parked car set ablaze.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported a tragic toll, with 33 individuals confirmed dead and 195 injured due to the Israeli bombardments since Saturday. The ongoing conflict, which has seen clashes between Israel and Hezbollah for nearly a year, has resulted in a staggering 1,640 fatalities, including 104 children and 194 women, alongside over 8,400 injuries.
In a significant development, Hezbollah has confirmed the assassination of its Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, during Israeli raids on Friday. This event has prompted concerns about a potential regional war. An American official noted that Israel might consider a limited ground invasion of Lebanon, while U.S. President Joe Biden urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to restrain military actions in light of the escalating violence.
As tensions rise, Hezbollah has retaliated with rocket fire aimed at Israeli positions in Safed, the Galilee, and the occupied Golan Heights. Reports suggest that approximately 50 rockets were launched from Lebanon towards Israel, with one rocket striking a building in Maalot and others causing fires in various locations. The situation remains volatile, with both sides preparing for further confrontations.
