Iranian Red Crescent Responds to Israeli Attack with New Hospital in Lebanon
In a significant move following the recent destruction of an Iranian field hospital on the Syrian-Lebanese border, the Iranian Red Crescent has announced plans to establish a new medical facility. This decision comes after Israel's bombing of the existing hospital, which resulted in considerable damage to medical equipment and supplies. The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack, labeling it a war crime and a violation of international humanitarian law.
According to reports, the Israeli airstrike targeted a 56-bed hospital, leading to a fire that destroyed essential medical supplies and equipment. Thankfully, all medical personnel were reported safe. Pir Hussein Kolivand, the head of the Iranian Red Crescent, stated that the hospital was clearly marked, emphasizing that the attack was a blatant violation of human rights and international law. He plans to file a formal complaint against Israel in international forums.
New Field Hospital to Aid Displaced and Wounded
In response to the urgent need for medical assistance in the region, the Iranian Red Crescent is rapidly constructing a new field hospital approximately 40 kilometers from the site of the destroyed facility. Kolivand announced that the new hospital would be inaugurated soon to provide critical care for those affected by the ongoing conflict. Additionally, he revealed that over 8,000 specialized doctors have volunteered to assist in Lebanon and Syria, showcasing Iran's commitment to humanitarian aid in the region.
The Iranian Red Crescent has also been actively sending medical supplies, with a recent shipment of three tons of aid delivered by the Iranian Parliament Speaker. This effort is part of a larger initiative to support the healthcare needs of the Lebanese population amid escalating tensions. Kolivand's letter to international humanitarian organizations calls for condemnation of the Israeli attacks and highlights the urgent need for support in the region.
International Response and Ongoing Efforts
Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations has raised concerns regarding the Israeli attacks on humanitarian facilities, stating that such actions represent a violation of international humanitarian law. The Iranian Red Crescent's commitment to sending additional medical supplies and equipment reflects its dedication to alleviating the suffering of civilians in Lebanon and Syria.
As the situation continues to evolve, the establishment of the new field hospital is a critical step in addressing the healthcare crisis resulting from the conflict. The Iranian Red Crescent's efforts underscore the importance of humanitarian aid in conflict zones and the need for international support to protect medical facilities and personnel.
