Investigation into Possible Suicide in Bouches-du-Rhône
A recent autopsy has confirmed that the death of a 54-year-old man, whose body was found with a knife embedded in his thorax, is compatible with a suicidal act. Alès prosecutor Abdelkrim Grini reported that the knife, measuring 33 centimeters, was discovered during a mortuary cleaning by a funeral director. This finding has prompted an investigation to explore the circumstances surrounding the man's death, which occurred two days after a doctor had already concluded it was a suicide.
Circumstances Surrounding the Death
The deceased was undergoing treatment for psychological issues and was found unresponsive on the grounds of a clinic in Aubagne, near Marseille. Alongside the body, a box cutter and letters indicating his intent to end his life were discovered. The medical examiner noted that the manner in which the knife was inserted into the body aligns with suicidal behavior. Additionally, an older wound resembling the knife injury suggests that the man may have previously attempted suicide.
Ongoing Investigation
Despite the autopsy results supporting the suicide theory, the case has been referred to the Marseille public prosecutor's office to ensure a thorough investigation into the causes of death. This precautionary measure aims to rule out any possibility of foul play, as the authorities seek to clarify the circumstances leading to this tragic incident.
