International Symposium 'Creating the Future' Kicks Off in Moscow
On November 4, 2024, the international science fiction symposium 'Creating the Future' commenced at the National Center 'Russia' in Moscow, gathering participants from 101 countries, including scientists, researchers, and government officials. This inaugural event at the newly established center aims to foster a comprehensive dialogue on the future of humanity, technology, and global governance.
The symposium, initiated by Russia, serves as a platform for diverse voices from the BRICS, SCO, and CIS nations, promoting the vision of a multipolar world. In his welcoming address, President Vladimir Putin emphasized the importance of setting ambitious goals and maintaining a sovereign worldview amid current global challenges. He called on participants to draw inspiration from Russia's historical achievements and to envision a future shaped by moral and patriotic values.
Key Discussions and Cultural Events
Throughout the first day, over 20 events were conducted across four thematic areas: the future of humanity, technology, a multipolar world, and civilizations. Notably, the opening plenary discussion, 'Philosophy of the Future,' tackled critical issues such as the societal impact of artificial intelligence and the creation of a comfortable living environment. Sergei Kiriyenko, the first deputy head of the presidential administration, highlighted the significance of a shared vision for a strong and just world order.
In addition to the discussions, attendees enjoyed cultural activities, including the 'Portraits of the Future' project, where artists created real-time portraits in a futurist style. An exhibition titled 'Heritage for the Future' showcased over 250 artworks by young artists from BRICS countries, reflecting the creative aspirations of the next generation.
Focus on a Multipolar World
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov participated in a panel discussing the future of a multipolar world, asserting that the global balance of power is shifting towards the Global South and East. He criticized the West's reluctance to accept these changes and called for bold ideas that reflect the realities of a multipolar future. Lavrov urged participants to envision strategies that would encourage Western nations to engage more constructively in global affairs.
The symposium not only aims to generate innovative ideas for the future but also seeks to unite diverse perspectives in addressing the pressing challenges of our time.
