The Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi, Swedish Lapland, celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, attracting visitors from around the globe with its unique ice and snow accommodations. Founded by Ingva Bergqvist, the hotel merges art and nature, showcasing creations from 26 artists across 13 countries. Over the years, it has welcomed more than a million guests, becoming a renowned artistic and tourist destination.
This year's construction involved 500 tons of ice from the Tournai River, along with snow-ice equivalent to ten Olympic swimming pools. Despite challenges from an unusually warm November, a dedicated team completed the hotel in six weeks, ensuring it was ready for the winter season.
The Ice Hotel features 12 artistic suites, including 'WHOOPS WRONG ROOM!!' with an ice rhinoceros, 'Hideaway' for an intimate atmosphere, and 'Áhku Fáhcat' inspired by Sami art. Guests can also enjoy a spectacular ballroom, handmade ice chandeliers, and the year-round ICEHOTEL 365 with additional suites and the new ICEBAR In Orbit.
Culinary offerings include a four-course menu served on ice and a 12-course chef's menu at the Veranda restaurant. Activities range from ice sculpture workshops and electric snowmobile rides to traditional sauna ceremonies and Northern Lights tours. Room prices vary, with cold rooms starting at 2,100 shekels and warm rooms at 1,400 shekels.
