Sharp Decline in Humanitarian Aid to Northern Gaza
The humanitarian situation in the northern Gaza Strip has reached a critical point, with a significant decline in the number of aid trucks entering the region. Data from the Palestinian Ministry of Social Development indicates that the number of humanitarian aid trucks fell from 1,269 in July to just 923 in September, marking a troubling 27% decrease over three months. This decline is particularly concerning given the urgent need for food and medical supplies in the area, which has been devastated by ongoing conflict.
In September, food aid trucks specifically saw a 17% drop compared to July, while food parcels provided by the World Food Programme plummeted by 54%. The situation is exacerbated by the Israeli military's ongoing ground attacks, which have resulted in numerous casualties and hindered rescue efforts. Reports indicate that many bodies remain trapped under rubble, as rescue teams face continuous threats from military operations.
International organizations have raised alarms over Israel's forced displacement of Palestinians from northern Gaza, warning that such actions will only worsen the already dire humanitarian crisis. Since the onset of hostilities on October 7, 2023, it is estimated that over 139,000 individuals have been killed or wounded, with thousands more missing. The region is currently experiencing one of the worst humanitarian disasters in recent history, with widespread destruction and famine affecting countless families.
