Escalation of Conflict on the Lebanon-Israel Border
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified, with military expert Brigadier General Hassan Jouni highlighting the Israeli army's attempts to conceal its movements from the Lebanese resistance. Jouni noted that Hezbollah has successfully targeted Israeli military assets, including a Merkava tank, resulting in casualties among Israeli soldiers. This marks a significant escalation as Hezbollah continues to thwart Israeli advances in border areas such as Taybeh and Rab Thalatheen.
Hezbollah's Resilience and Israeli Military Strategy
Despite facing heavy aerial bombardments and artillery strikes, Hezbollah fighters have maintained their positions, particularly in Aita al-Shaab. Jouni pointed out that Israeli forces are struggling to achieve their objectives, which may include establishing a buffer zone or expanding control over strategic heights. However, he expressed skepticism regarding the feasibility of these plans, emphasizing that the true challenge for the Israeli army lies in sustaining its presence in newly occupied areas.
Humanitarian Impact and Casualties
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported alarming figures due to the ongoing Israeli aggression, with 2,483 fatalities and over 11,628 injuries recorded since October 2023, affecting a significant number of women and children. Additionally, more than 1.34 million people have been displaced as a result of the conflict. In retaliation, Hezbollah has increased its missile strikes and drone operations against Israeli military sites, reflecting a shift in the balance of power in the region.
