The municipality of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip is facing a severe humanitarian crisis as new Israeli evacuation orders have rendered 10 out of 19 water wells inoperable. This has exacerbated the already dire water situation for hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians seeking safe drinking water.
Ismail Sarsour, the head of the Emergency Committee in Deir al-Balah, reported that access to three additional wells has become perilous, leaving residents with limited options for water supply. The wells that are out of service were crucial for feeding areas west of Salah al-Din Street, the city center.
Currently, about two million displaced individuals are struggling to secure drinking water in the Gaza Strip, which is compounded by the ongoing Israeli military operations that have resulted in over 132,000 casualties, the majority of whom are women and children. The situation remains critical as the international community calls for immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis.
Despite the UN Security Council's call for a ceasefire and the International Court of Justice's orders to prevent acts of genocide, Israel continues its military campaign in Gaza, leading to widespread destruction and suffering.
