The Unforgettable Olympic Torch Relay
This year's Olympic torch relay was a memorable event for many, especially for the 24 students from Dora-Maar College in Saint-Ouen. Arriving in Saint-Ouen after participating in the July 14 parade in Paris, these students, among the best in their grade, were still glowing with excitement hours later. 'Frankly, it’s an unforgettable moment,' enthused Rayen, summarizing the general feeling. Despite the inconveniences and early mornings, the students felt it was all worth it. Leeyah echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in representing French youth from Greater Paris.
The students remained composed as they participated in the torch relay, with Muse taking over from Thibaut Vallette, the Olympic champion from Rio 2016. The group walked towards the officials' platform, passing the Olympic flame from hand to hand amidst applause from the presidential couple and other dignitaries. 'I am very happy to have carried the flame. It was very impressive, shocking to see President Macron in real life,' said Brihanna, delighted.
Muse, the captain of the group, had the honor of ensuring the first relay of the Olympic flame after Thibaut Vallette. 'It is a pride to have carried the flame, and I am very honored to have done it in front of Macron and many other personalities,' added Rayen. The students were further thrilled by the compliments from the torch relay organizers and the golden ring given to symbolize their participation.
Athletes Honored as Flag Bearers
In another significant moment, discus thrower Mélina Robert-Michon and swimmer Florent Manaudou were chosen by their peers to honor the French delegation on July 26. 'I am honored and proud to have been chosen by our peers,' said Mélina Robert-Michon. She expressed her excitement about leading the French Olympic team to new records and ensuring that all athletes have unforgettable experiences.
Florent Manaudou shared a similar sentiment, recalling the emotional moment he learned of his election. 'I am delighted to form this pair with Mélina and that my peers have elected me,' he said. Both athletes feel a great responsibility and are eager to contribute to the success and memorable experiences of their fellow athletes during the Games.
