Tragic Car Accident Claims Five Lives in Tarn
A devastating car accident near Albi, in the Tarn region of South-West France, resulted in the deaths of five individuals early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on the D988 road in Gaillac, when a rented Renault Captur crashed into a plane tree, subsequently bursting into flames. Emergency services discovered four burned bodies inside the vehicle, while a fifth victim, a 20-year-old man, was ejected from the car and found nearby.
Authorities have confirmed that only one vehicle was involved in the accident. The Albi prosecutor's office has launched an investigation to determine the identities of the victims and the precise circumstances surrounding the crash. As of Sunday morning, the young man was the only victim identified, and he was reportedly in cardio-respiratory arrest when help arrived but could not be resuscitated.
The mayor of Gaillac stated that the car crashed approximately 200 meters from a roundabout, just after a slight bend in the road. Initial reports suggest that excessive speed may have played a role in the tragedy, although investigations are ongoing to confirm this hypothesis.
