Casualties and Damage from Recent Bombings in Northern Syria
In a recent escalation of violence in northern Syria, a civilian was killed and several others injured due to air and ground bombardments by Syrian regime and Russian forces. The attacks occurred in the Aleppo and Idlib countryside, with the Syrian Civil Defense reporting that eight individuals sustained injuries, necessitating their transfer to hospitals. The bombardment was primarily focused on the Atarib area, west of Aleppo, and was attributed to regime forces alongside Iranian-backed groups from the '46th Regiment'.
The situation has been exacerbated by targeted strikes from Russian forces, which included two raids on the Al-Kilani power station in western Idlib. This assault not only caused significant damage to the power station but also ignited fires in its fuel and oil tanks, rendering the facility inoperative. Consequently, this outage has disrupted drinking water supplies to numerous towns and villages in the al-Roj plain, highlighting the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict.
The bombardments have continued for several days, with Russian warplanes also striking civilian homes in the village of Kafridin, leading to further destruction. The recent attacks follow a previous incident where eight civilians, including children, were injured due to rocket shelling from areas under the control of regime forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces. These developments underscore the persistent instability in the region and the dire consequences for the local population.
