Renewed Israeli Bombing in Southern Lebanon
The Israeli army has intensified its military operations in southern Lebanon, targeting approximately 30 locations in the southern suburbs of Beirut over the past 48 hours. This escalation follows the sound of sirens in northern Israeli towns, including Kiryat Shmona and Acre, as Hezbollah reported conducting operations that resulted in casualties among Israeli forces. Reports indicate that Israeli airstrikes have led to significant civilian displacement, although many residents return during the day to check on their properties.
Israeli forces issued multiple warnings to residents in areas such as Ghobeiry, Haret Hreik, and Burj al-Barajneh, advising them to evacuate before the bombings commenced. The ongoing conflict has resulted in over 40 fatalities in airstrikes across eastern and southern Lebanon, according to local authorities.
Hezbollah's Response and Casualties
In retaliation, Hezbollah has launched rockets into northern Israel, with the Israeli army confirming the interception of several projectiles. The conflict has seen injuries among civilians, with three individuals hurt at a construction site due to the rocket fire. The Israeli Home Front Command reported sirens sounding in various border towns, indicating the heightened state of alert.
Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for targeting Israeli military positions, including the Shraga base and the Tel Haim base in Tel Aviv, marking a significant escalation in their operations. The Israeli army has acknowledged the death of a faction commander and injuries to multiple soldiers during these confrontations. Since the onset of the conflict on October 7, 2023, which began with Israel's military actions in Gaza, the violence has claimed over 147,000 lives and left many more injured, with the toll in Lebanon now reaching 3,386 dead and 14,417 injured, including many women and children. The ongoing hostilities have displaced approximately 1.4 million individuals in the region.
