China Condemns NATO's Washington Summit Statement
China's Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the NATO summit statement issued in Washington, calling it a document that exaggerates tensions in the Asia-Pacific region and is filled with Cold War-era thinking and belligerent rhetoric. Spokesman Lin Jian criticized the content as prejudiced and provocative, stating that China has made solemn representations to NATO regarding the matter.
Lin accused NATO of strengthening military and security ties with China's neighbors and US allies, actions that he claims harm China's interests and undermine regional peace and stability. He urged NATO to abandon outdated Cold War concepts, correct misconceptions about China, and cease interfering in China's internal affairs.
Russia and China Reject NATO's Stance on Ukraine
In a joint response, Russia and China have rejected the NATO summit declaration, which maintained that Ukraine's accession to the Alliance is 'irreversible' and warned China to stop supporting Moscow. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov labeled the declaration a serious threat to Russian security and indicated that coordinated measures would be necessary to contain NATO's influence.
Peskov criticized NATO's decision to describe Ukraine's path to membership as irreversible, accusing the Alliance of progressively moving its military infrastructure towards Russian borders. He emphasized that NATO's actions are aimed at suppressing Russia and inflicting a strategic defeat.
Calls for De-escalation and Peace
The vice president of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, took a hardline stance, stating that Moscow must work to make Ukraine and NATO disappear. He stressed that Russia should do everything possible to ensure that Ukraine's path to NATO ends, either with the disappearance of Ukraine or NATO, or preferably both.
Meanwhile, China has urged NATO to stop inciting confrontation and conflict. A spokesman for the Chinese mission to the European Union called on NATO to cease glorifying the so-called 'Chinese threat' and contribute more to global peace and stability.
