Kazan Declaration Highlights
The
Kazan Declaration
was formalized to enhance cooperation among BRICS countries in various sectors, including politics, security, economy, and culture. The declaration highlighted the importance of removing unilateral economic sanctions that contradict international law, as these restrictions adversely affect societies, particularly during humanitarian crises.
The BRICS nations, which include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, alongside new members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the Emirates joining in early 2024, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. They noted that violence in Gaza and the West Bank has surged to unprecedented levels due to Israeli military operations.
Regional Consequences and Calls for Humanitarian Aid
In addition to addressing the situation in Gaza, the BRICS declaration condemned Israeli attacks on Lebanon and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the region. The bloc warned that the escalation of conflict could have severe repercussions at both regional and international levels. Furthermore, they stressed the need for the unconditional release of all prisoners held illegally by both sides and urged for the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the affected populations.
