An anticyclone from the Atlantic clashes with stormy depressions from Spain, bringing unsettled weather to France. While the North-West enjoys sunny skies, the southern half faces heavy thunderstorms. Temperatures drop significantly with storms continuing into Sunday.

An anticyclone in the Atlantic, off Ireland's coast, brings fresh air to the region, while stormy depressions circulate from Spain towards the Mediterranean, resulting in unsettled weather patterns across France. The northern half of the country is generally sunny and cool, while the southern regions face heavy and potentially violent storms.

Saturday's weather is marked by clearings in the morning, particularly in the northern half, with warm temperatures and sunny skies. However, the southern half experiences a more somber atmosphere with heavy, threatening conditions. Near the Mediterranean, low clouds cover the beaches due to the sea wind, while the Center-East experiences thunderstorms that could include hail. By the afternoon, the North-West enjoys seasonal temperatures with some wind on the beaches.

Violent thunderstorms may develop in the extreme South-West by Saturday evening, resulting in heavy rainfall and potential local flooding, particularly around the Hautes-Pyrénées, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Landes, and Gers. Meanwhile, less intense thunderstorms are expected between Mâconnais and Franche-Comté, posing a threat to vineyards in these regions.

Sunday's weather doesn't bring much change, remaining unsettled and stormy from the South-West to the Center-East. The South-East sees a rapid spread of these conditions, leading to significant deterioration from the Mediterranean to the Alps. In the South-West, nighttime storms lower temperatures to around 15°C due to rain and wind, giving the region an autumnal feel. Meanwhile, the North-West enjoys pleasant, cool weather, albeit with the risk of sunburn due to the high sun at this time of year.

By Sunday afternoon, the unsettled weather spreads further across the South-East, with violent storms and heavy rainfall persisting in the mountains and the Alps. While the North-West experiences nice, cool weather, intermittent sunlight increases the risk of sunburn despite chilly winds along the Channel and the North Sea.

  • According to Météo France, Saturday will see relatively clear skies in the morning across the nation, with a band of clouds in the center. The afternoon may see thunderstorms in Marseille and precipitation in the east. Evening brings increased stormy conditions, particularly in New Aquitaine and Occitanie, such as in Tarbes, where storms may intensify.
  • Temperatures on Saturday vary significantly across France, with the southern half experiencing highs of 29°C in Ajaccio, while the northern half sees moderate values like 22°C in Paris and 18°C in Brest. Sunday brings cooler temperatures overall, with rain and storms continuing in the South-West and stretching to the South-East in the afternoon, affecting areas like Montélimar with temperatures up to 26 degrees.
  • Throughout Sunday, the northern regions continue enjoying clearings with occasional clouds but remain mostly dry. However, thunderstorms and rain persist in the South-West, Alps, and Corsica, with temperatures ranging from 16°C in Tarbes to 28°C in the South-East and Corsica. Storms are expected to calm down by Sunday night, giving way to a cloudy, rainy sky in the south of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
