Anis Malik Al-Rawi, a distinguished Iraqi scientist and professor in radiochemistry, passed away on October 25, 2024, after a prolonged battle with illness. Born on July 1, 1945, in Baghdad, Al-Rawi dedicated his life to academia and scientific research, making significant contributions to his field. He began his academic journey at the University of Baghdad, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1967, before pursuing further studies in the UK.

Academic Achievements and Contributions

Al-Rawi's academic pursuits led him to the University of Salford, where he completed his Bachelor of Science with honors in radiochemistry in 1972, followed by a master's degree in 1973 and a doctorate in 1976. Throughout his career, he published 45 international research papers and supervised numerous master’s and doctoral theses, showcasing his commitment to education and research. Notably, he implemented 11 pharmaceutical projects in collaboration with the Iraqi Ministry of Industry between 1998 and 2000, reflecting his dedication to practical applications of science.

Legacy and Final Years

In addition to his academic roles, Al-Rawi served in various leadership positions, including Head of the Chemistry Department at the College of Education for Girls at the University of Baghdad and Dean of the College of Science for Girls. He also held the position of Cultural Advisor in Sweden from 2007 to 2012. Al-Rawi was not only a scientist but also a community leader, serving as the imam and preacher at the Umm Al-Mu'minin Khadija Center Mosque in Stockholm. His passing marks the loss of a significant figure in the scientific community, remembered for his contributions to both education and society.
