US Voices Concerns Over Settler Violence in West Bank
The United States has expressed significant concern regarding the recent escalation of violence by extremist Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller highlighted this issue on Monday, following reports of settlers setting fire to vehicles on the outskirts of Ramallah. Miller emphasized that the U.S. has communicated these concerns to the Israeli government, urging them to take action to de-escalate tensions and hold accountable those responsible for the violence.
Local reports indicate that groups of settlers have attacked Palestinian properties in Al-Bireh, east of Ramallah, resulting in the destruction of multiple vehicles. Witnesses reported that approximately 20 cars were set ablaze during these incidents, and there were claims of settlers opening fire on civil defense teams responding to the attacks. Such violence not only inflicts suffering on Palestinian communities but also poses a significant threat to the peace process in the region.
UNRWA's Vital Role in Gaza Aid Distribution
In addition to the situation in the West Bank, the U.S. also commented on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Miller noted the critical role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in facilitating aid distribution in the region. He stated that without UNRWA's involvement, large-scale aid distribution would be nearly impossible. The U.S. expressed concern over Israeli military actions in northern Gaza, particularly incidents involving civilian casualties, including children. Miller underscored the need for Israel to reconsider its ongoing military operations in Gaza, suggesting that Israel has already achieved several of its strategic objectives there.
