Unexploded Ordnance Poses Grave Threat in Gaza

During the recent 30th edition of the
Shoe Pyramid
event held in Paris and Lyon, Nicholas Orr, the NGO's mine action officer in the occupied Palestinian territories, highlighted the dire situation in Gaza. He emphasized that after nearly a year of conflict, access to damaged buildings remains perilous due to the presence of these explosives. Civilians are often left with no safe place to go, as the risk of encountering unexploded weapons hampers their ability to reclaim their lives and belongings.
Humanitarian Efforts Compromised by Explosives
Humanitarian organizations are currently facing immense challenges in delivering aid due to the threats posed by unexploded ordnance. Orr noted that, similar to the ongoing removal of World War II munitions in Paris and London, the international community must invest significant resources and concerted efforts to address the situation in Gaza. In preparation for the event, Handicap International has been working on the ground to document the presence of unexploded munitions, marking them with red paint to warn locals of their dangers.
