The first major military operations by the Zionist gangs during the Nakba were launched in April 1948 within the framework of the general plan to occupy Palestine, called “Plan Dalet.”
The goal of Operation Nahshon was to control the road between the Palestinian coast and Jerusalem, and to facilitate the arrival of Zionist aid and equipment convoys heading to the Jews besieged in the Holy City.
The plan of the operation included seizing all strategic sites and occupying all Palestinian villages that were located on both sides of the main road from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, destroying them and expelling their people.
During the operation, Zionist gangs occupied many villages and committed war crimes against civilians, the most famous of which was the Deir Yassin massacre.
The Palestinian and Arab resistance fiercely confronted these attacks, and fierce battles took place, most notably the Battle of Qastal.
