UN Rapporteur Denounces Israeli Actions in Gaza as Psychological Terrorism and Genocide
The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip has drawn severe condemnation from the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to health, Tlaleng Mofokeng. In a recent statement, Mofokeng described the situation as psychological terrorism and part of a broader genocide plan aimed at the Palestinian population. She highlighted the alarming deterioration of mental health among Gazans, exacerbated by the relentless Israeli aggression.
Mofokeng pointed out that the anxiety and shock levels among residents have reached unprecedented heights. The health care system in Gaza is crumbling under the weight of continuous attacks, leaving many without access to essential medical services. Tragically, she noted, many children are born into this crisis, some not even receiving birth certificates before succumbing to the dire conditions.
This statement comes a year after the onset of a brutal campaign described by many as a war of extermination, which has reportedly resulted in over 139,000 casualties among Palestinians, including thousands of missing individuals. The humanitarian crisis has deepened, with widespread destruction and famine affecting the most vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly.
Despite international calls for restraint, Israel has intensified its military operations, flouting UN Security Council resolutions aimed at ending the violence. The situation has escalated beyond Gaza, with recent air strikes reported in various regions of Lebanon, including the capital, Beirut. The international community has urged Israel to adhere to the International Court of Justice’s directives to prevent acts of genocide and alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the region.
