A tragic road accident involving a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to around twenty people, including eight in serious condition, on the A104 in Seine-et-Marne. The incident, which occurred on May 25 near Villeparisis, was caused by the HGV driver's reported sleep at the wheel, leading to a severe collision with eleven other vehicles.
The accident took place shortly after 11:30 a.m. According to the Meaux prosecutor's office and the local firefighting department, the chain collision began when the HGV struck a light vehicle, which then led to further impacts. Among the injured, three were initially reported to be in a state of absolute emergency. The deceased was identified as a 36-year-old woman. Another seriously injured individual, a man of the same age who was in the car with her, was rushed to the hospital. The driver of the HGV, also critically injured, was tested negative for narcotics and alcohol and is currently in police custody facing charges of homicide and involuntary injury by a driver.
Due to the magnitude of the accident, the Republican Security Company (CRS) Est Île-de-France was mobilized.
