Israeli Army's Struggles Against Hamas and Hezbollah
Yitzhak Brick, a former general in the Israeli army, has stated that the military has not yet defeated Hamas, despite ongoing operations. In a recent interview with the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, Brick expressed concerns about the army's current state, describing it as one of exhaustion and noting that many soldiers are refusing to serve. He criticized the recent appointment of Yisrael Katz as defense minister, suggesting that the real decision-making power lies with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Brick also addressed the situation on the northern front with Hezbollah, acknowledging that while Israel has inflicted significant damage, the group remains a potent threat. He indicated that Israeli forces have advanced three kilometers into southern Lebanon but lack the capability to push further. The retired general emphasized the daily missile threats from Lebanon, stating, "This war is destroying us."
Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza
Since the escalation of conflict on October 7, 2023, Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip have resulted in a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. Reports indicate that over 147,000 Palestinians have been killed or wounded, with a significant number being women and children. Additionally, more than 10,000 individuals are reported missing. Brick's comments coincide with ongoing Israeli military operations in both Gaza and Lebanon, highlighting the complex and dire situation in the region. As Israel continues its military campaigns, Hezbollah has been responding with missile attacks and drone strikes targeting Israeli military positions.
