Jean-Baptiste Boursier Appointed as New Joker for TF1's 8pm News
TF1 has officially announced the appointment of Jean-Baptiste Boursier as the new joker for its 8pm news segment, stepping in for Julien Arnaud who recently transitioned to host 'Télématin' on France 2. The announcement was made by Thierry Thuillier, the deputy general director of news, during an editorial conference on October 2. Boursier, who has been with the TF1 group for a year, is set to begin his new role on October 21, coinciding with the All Saints' Day holidays.
At 42 years old, Boursier brings a wealth of experience to the position. His background includes training in radio at France Bleu and Chérie FM, as well as stints at local TV, iTélé (now CNews), and BFMTV, where he hosted significant events like the Football World Cup in 2018. He also presented 'Dimanche en France' on France 3 before joining LCI.
Thierry Thuillier highlighted the decision-making process involved in selecting Boursier, noting that about ten applications were received from various candidates. However, the preference was to promote an internal talent. Thuillier emphasized the importance of finding a presenter who resonates with the audience, providing information that enhances their daily lives with a sense of empathy and proximity.
