Tensions Rise in Jerusalem: Glick's Controversial Visit to Al-Aqsa Mosque
On November 26, 2024, extremist Knesset member Yehuda Glick made headlines by storming the Dome of the Rock courtyard at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, a site of significant religious importance. Eyewitnesses reported that Glick deviated from the typical route taken by settlers, climbing to the square surrounding the Dome of the Rock. Accompanied by an American Jewish delegation, he provided Talmudic explanations at the Dome of the Spirits, further intensifying tensions in the area. This incident is part of a broader pattern, as settlers have been entering Al-Aqsa regularly since 2003, with 159 settlers participating in today's events according to the Islamic Endowments Department.
Demolition Orders in Silwan: A Growing Concern for Residents
In addition to Glick's actions, a Palestinian committee in Jerusalem revealed that the Israeli authorities have distributed numerous demolition orders for homes in the Silwan neighborhood. The Islamic Christian Committee for the Support of Jerusalem and the Holy Sites expressed alarm over what they described as an “accelerated Israeli plan” targeting the Al-Bustan neighborhood, where about 1,500 residents live. Over the past two days, the occupation municipality has issued dozens of demolition orders, marking one of the largest attacks on the neighborhood in years. The committee emphasized that these actions violate the residents' right to housing and are part of a broader strategy to displace the original inhabitants of Jerusalem, urging international intervention to halt these acts of ethnic cleansing.
