Türkiye Denies Trade Allegations with Israel
On November 12, 2024, Türkiye firmly rejected claims of ongoing trade activities with Israel, asserting that it has completely ceased all exports and imports with the country since May 2, 2024. This announcement was made by the Anti-Disinformation Center of the Turkish Communications Presidency, which emphasized that the allegations circulating in various media outlets are unfounded. The center clarified that any statistics suggesting continued trade under the code 624 for Israel are misleading, as they pertain to transactions prior to the cutoff date.
Trade Minister Confirms Suspension
Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat reiterated the government's stance on the suspension of trade with Israel, stating that this measure will remain in place until a permanent ceasefire is established and unrestricted humanitarian aid is permitted into the Gaza Strip. Bolat's confirmation aligns with the Turkish government's commitment to halt all trade activities with Israel for the foreseeable future.
Focus on Palestinian Trade
While trade with Israel is suspended, Türkiye continues to facilitate trade with the Palestinian Authority in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. However, this trade is strictly limited to goods intended for Palestinian use and must be exported through Palestinian channels. All commercial transactions with the Palestinian territories are conducted using a specific code designated for the State of Palestine. Furthermore, Turkish sources indicated that any goods exported to Palestine require approval from the Palestinian Ministry of National Economy before being shipped via Israeli ports, as Palestine lacks its own Mediterranean seaport.
