Spain Dominate 2024's World’s Best Restaurants List

Spain has once again solidified its position as the gastronomic epicenter of the world with the announcement of the 2024 World's 50 Best Restaurants list. This year, six Spanish restaurants have made the esteemed list, and three of them are placed among the top five. Barcelona-based 'Mejorar' clinched the coveted top spot, a significant rise from its second position last year. Chefs Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch, and Mateu Casanas, who honed their craft at the legendary El Bulli, lead the restaurant. Their signature dishes, such as the caviar-stuffed Panchino fritter and frozen gazpacho sandwich, have garnered international acclaim.

Close behind in second place is Asador Etxebarri in Atxondo, near Bilbao, which is renowned for its unparalleled barbecue. Under chef Víctor Arguinzoniz’s leadership, the restaurant highlights pristine ingredients like Palamós red shrimp, elevating simple grilling to an art form. Not far behind is Diverxo in Madrid, which secured fourth place, underlining Spain’s impressive presence in the top ranks.

While Spain leads the pack, other countries have also made significant strides in the culinary world. Lima's Maido, recognized as South America's top gastronomic haven, rounded out the top five. Mexico was highlighted as North America's finest, with Quintonil in Mexico City coming in seventh.

In Asia, Bangkok's culinary scene shone brightly with four restaurants making the list. Gaggan Anand, a staple in the city's fine dining, ranked ninth. Tokyos’ Sézanne was named Asia's finest by securing the fifteenth place.

The United States and Other Notables

From the United States, Atomix in New York gained the title of North America’s best, achieving the sixth spot. Nestled in California’s Sonoma Valley, SingleThread reached the 47th position. Noteworthy mentions include Hong Kong, which saw Wing debut at the 20th position and The Chairman leap to the 26th spot.

The list is curated by the World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy, consisting of 1,080 food writers, chefs, restaurateurs, and other global industry experts. This democratic and inclusive selection process ensures that diverse global culinary delights are recognized.
