Saudi Soldiers Killed in Yemen Attack
A recent attack in Yemen has resulted in the deaths of a Saudi officer and a non-commissioned officer. The incident occurred on November 9, 2024, at a training camp for Yemeni forces located in Seiyun, Hadhramaut Governorate, eastern Yemen. According to the official Saudi Press Agency, the attack was perpetrated by a member of the Yemeni Ministry of Defense within the coalition forces' camp.
Brigadier General Turki al-Maliki, the spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition forces, confirmed that the attack also left another officer injured. The victims were engaged in sports training at the time of the assault, which raises concerns regarding the security measures in place at the camp. The Saudi authorities have since evacuated the bodies and the injured personnel back to the Kingdom, where they will be honored.
The Saudi-led coalition has been training local Yemeni forces to combat terrorism and smuggling, alongside supporting humanitarian efforts in the region. In light of this attack, Brigadier General Al-Maliki stated that investigations will be coordinated with the Yemeni Ministry of Defense to uncover the motives behind the attack and to apprehend the assailant.
Yemen's Information Minister Muammar Al-Eryani condemned the attack, labeling it a cowardly act of terrorism aimed at undermining the coalition's efforts in supporting legitimacy in Yemen. He also emphasized the Yemeni government's commitment to pursuing the perpetrator and ensuring justice is served.
Despite this tragic incident, Yemen has experienced relative calm over the past two years, attributed to ongoing peace talks between Saudi and Houthi officials.
