Saudi Arabia Hosts International Conference for Palestinian State
On October 30, 2024, Saudi Arabia convened an international conference in Riyadh aimed at establishing a Palestinian state. The event, known as the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, seeks to foster international support and pressure for the realization of Palestinian sovereignty. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan emphasized the participation of around 90 countries and international organizations, highlighting the urgency of addressing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The conference is not only focused on the establishment of a Palestinian state but also addresses the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Lebanon. Bin Farhan condemned the Israeli actions in northern Gaza, labeling them as genocide and a significant obstacle to peace. He stated that Saudi Arabia will mobilize global public opinion against Israel's practices and reiterated that the establishment of a Palestinian state is a prerequisite for the Kingdom's normalization efforts with Israel.
Joint Arab-Islamic Summit Planned
In conjunction with the conference, Saudi Arabia has called for a joint Arab-Islamic summit scheduled for November 11, 2024. This summit aims to address the Israeli aggression in Gaza and Lebanon, further solidifying the Kingdom's role as a mediator in the region. The Foreign Ministry's announcement underscores the Kingdom's commitment to rallying support from Arab and Islamic nations to confront the humanitarian and political crises facing the Palestinian people.
A Focus on Humanitarian Operations and Peace Initiatives
The conference will include sessions on humanitarian operations, particularly focusing on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). The discussions aim to outline a specific timetable for implementing the two-state solution, which is seen as essential for achieving lasting peace in the region. As the situation in Gaza remains dire, the international community's involvement is deemed crucial to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian population and to work towards a viable resolution of the conflict.
