This decision has sparked discussions among athletes regarding attendance amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. Pavel Rozhkov, head of the Russian Paralympic Committee, confirmed that those interested will receive transportation and spectator seats. As of now, only swimmer Valeria Shabalina has expressed her intention to attend. The situation has raised questions about potential sanctions for those who choose not to participate, as highlighted by State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova.
In the meantime, Russian athletes have been making headlines with their outstanding performances at the Games, securing a total of 55 medals, including 16 golds. Darya Lukyanenko emerged as a standout, clinching two gold medals and two bronze medals, while Valeria Shabalina added to her accolades with multiple medals in her category. Maria Pavlova also made waves by breaking her own world record in the 100 m breaststroke, showcasing the talent and determination of Russian Paralympians.
Track and field events have also seen remarkable achievements, with Vladimir Sviridov setting a new world record in shot put, and Andrey Vdovin winning the 400m race in his class.
