Political Tensions in Loire: RN Candidate Attacked and Twins Compete in Elections
Attack on RN Candidate Hervé Breuil
In a disturbing incident, Hervé Breuil, a National Rally (RN) candidate, was attacked at a market in Saint-Étienne (Loire) on Thursday. The 68-year-old suffered a stroke following the attack and was transported to the Saint-Étienne University Hospital, where he will be kept under observation for eight days. The attack, which occurred around 11:30 a.m., involved a group of hooded individuals targeting Breuil and four other RN activists.
Michel Lucas, the departmental delegate of the RN in the Loire, reported that some activists were pushed around and that Breuil suffered a 'mini stroke' due to stress. Three complaints have been filed, and videos of the attack have been sent to the police. An investigation into violence in meetings has been opened by the city prosecutor's office.
Twin Candidates in Loire-Atlantique Elections
In a separate but equally intriguing political development, twins Alain and Michel Hunault are candidates in the early legislative elections in Loire-Atlantique. Although both are classified as various right-wingers, they find themselves in different political camps. Alain Hunault, the mayor of Châteaubriant, initially ran under the LR label but later distanced himself from Les Républicains following the judicial decision to maintain Éric Ciotti as the party head. He now runs under the 'Diverse right' label, advocating for pragmatic policies on security, immigration, and purchasing power.
Michel Hunault, on the other hand, is running in the seaside 7th district with the support of the RN, replacing the initially nominated candidate Laurence Le Page. A seasoned politician, Michel has previously served as a general and regional councilor, mayor of Derval, and deputy for the sixth constituency of Loire-Atlantique. Despite past electoral defeats, he is back in the political arena, supported by 'Friends of Eric Ciotti' and advocating for the union of the rights.
The relationship between the twins appears strained, especially after Michel's alignment with the RN, which reportedly disappointed Alain. Politics seems to be a family affair for the Hunaults, as their father, Xavier Hunault, also held various political offices, including mayor of Châteaubriant and deputy for the fifth constituency of Loire-Atlantique.
- The attack on Hervé Breuil highlights the rising tensions in French politics, especially as the country approaches the legislative elections. Such incidents underscore the volatile nature of political campaigns and the risks faced by candidates and activists alike.
- The Hunault twins' candidacies add another layer of complexity to the political landscape in Loire-Atlantique. Their differing political alignments and the family history of political involvement make their electoral battle particularly noteworthy. The outcome of their races could have significant implications for the political dynamics in the region.
