Raphaël Glucksmann Calls for Mobilization Ahead of European Elections

Eight days before the European elections deadline, Raphaël Glucksmann, head of the PS/Place Publique list, has launched his final appeals, urging constant mobilization until June 9. During a rally in Marseille attended by around 700 people, Glucksmann emphasized the importance of not letting the election be stolen and invited particularly young voters to create a political wave together.

Glucksmann confidently stated, 'We are going to be the big and beautiful surprise of these European elections.' The essayist and MEP, currently trailing Valérie Hayer with around 14% of voting intentions, implored his activists to demonstrate that there is a different way of doing politics, one that fosters enthusiasm without causing insults. In a subtle dig at Jean-Luc Mélenchon, he highlighted the significance of adopting a more inclusive approach.

Appealing specifically to French youth, Glucksmann warned of the consequences of abstention, saying, 'Do not let anyone decide your future for you. You are the generation that must change everything; it starts on June 9.' He noted the significant support he has received from young people, especially on social media, who have mobilized on various causes such as the defense of the Uighurs and combating fast fashion.

A Call for a New Political Wave

Earlier, Glucksmann remarked, 'Something beautiful, something great is happening.' He stressed the necessity of a path rooted in solidarity, democracy, and an assumed Europe. Drawing inspiration from the Marseille Spring, the left-wing alliance that won Marseille in 2020, he connected his campaign to this larger movement.

On Thursday evening in Paris, Glucksmann called on all democrats to join him in the emergence of a new political space and a renovated social democracy. He criticized Emmanuel Macron and Jean-Luc Mélenchon without naming them directly and underlined the need for a political framework that moves beyond traditional liberalism. Marseille's mayor, Benoît Payan, supported Glucksmann, stating, 'You embody this destiny of cohesion, of collective, of fraternity.' Glucksmann's final rally is scheduled for June 7 in Lille.

  • Raphaël Glucksmann's campaign has garnered significant attention due to his active presence on social media and his stance on important issues such as the defense of the Uighurs and the fight against fast fashion. His call for a 'new political space' aligns with a broader desire among voters for innovative approaches to governance. The reference to the Marseille Spring highlights the local successes of progressive alliances, suggesting a potential for broader political shifts at the European level.
  • By framing his appeal around youthful engagement and the embrace of solidarity and democracy, Glucksmann aims to attract a demographic that is often seen as disenchanted with traditional politics. His strategy seems to be resonating, as evidenced by the substantial attendance at his events and the passionate responses from his supporters.
