In a groundbreaking initiative to combat the extreme summer heat, Qatar has introduced air-conditioned outdoor spaces across various locations in Doha, making it possible for residents and tourists to enjoy the outdoors even in soaring temperatures. The project, which includes ten air-conditioned venues, aims to enhance the quality of life and promote outdoor activities year-round.
Among the highlights is the renowned Souq Waqif, where a 400-meter-long cooled corridor has been established, providing a comfortable environment for visitors. Al Gharafa Park, the world’s first air-conditioned park, maintains temperatures between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius, welcoming around 3,000 visitors daily. Other notable locations include Oxygen Park, Umm Al Seneem Park—which boasts the longest air-conditioned walking track globally at 1,143 meters—and several shopping destinations like Al Hazm Mall and Place Vendôme Mall.
These innovative cooling solutions not only enhance the outdoor experience but also encourage community engagement and promote tourism in Qatar, particularly during the summer months. With the successful implementation of these air-conditioned spaces, Qatar sets a new standard for urban planning in hot climates, ensuring that residents and visitors can enjoy the beauty and culture of the country without the discomfort of heat.
- The initiative comes in response to the intense heat experienced in Qatar, which can often exceed 40 degrees Celsius during the summer. By providing air-conditioned outdoor areas, the government hopes to encourage a more active lifestyle among residents, allowing them to partake in outdoor activities without the fear of heat exhaustion.
- In addition to the aforementioned parks and malls, other locations like Lusail Avenue and Tornado Dune Plaza have also been equipped with air-conditioning, creating a comprehensive network of cool spaces. This initiative not only improves the quality of life for residents but also positions Qatar as a forward-thinking destination for international tourists seeking comfort and convenience during their visits.
