A suspect has been detained in Russia for extorting a wounded serviceman who lost his arm in a special operation. The case highlights ongoing issues of extortion against military personnel, prompting calls for justice and effective law enforcement.

The police have detained a suspect in a shocking case of extortion from a serviceman who recently returned from a special military operation. The victim, a 21-year-old soldier who lost his arm during the operation, recorded a distressing video message detailing the threats he faced from a gang demanding money from him due to his military compensation for injuries sustained in combat.

According to Irina Volk, an official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, an investigator from the Ussuriysk Department has opened a criminal case under Article 163 of the Criminal Code, which addresses extortion. The situation escalated when the victim's brother received a troubling video message indicating that his sibling was contemplating suicide. This prompted immediate action from the police and volunteers, who located the soldier unconscious in a forest and rushed him to the hospital.

The investigation led to the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect, a local resident with a previous conviction. He confessed to his involvement at the police station, and authorities are now working to identify all individuals involved and assess the extent of the damages caused. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is also reviewing the effectiveness of police measures aimed at preventing such illegal activities against citizens.

In his video, the soldier described a gang that has targeted him and others like him, highlighting a broader issue of extortion faced by military personnel in the region. He appealed to higher authorities for justice, expressing the emotional toll that the extortion has taken on him. This incident is not isolated; there have been previous cases of extortion against servicemen in the Far East, indicating a troubling pattern that law enforcement is now under pressure to address.
