In Gaza, the ongoing conflict has resulted in a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, with the government media office reporting that over a thousand children and patients have died due to the Israeli occupation forces preventing their medical treatment abroad. This dire situation has unfolded over the past 100 days, as the blockade has hindered the entry of crucial medical supplies and aid into the region. Ismail Al-Thawabta, director of the office, emphasized the urgent need for the Rafah crossing to be opened to facilitate aid delivery and patient transfers, calling on the international community to intervene.
The World Health Organization has highlighted the plight of approximately 8,000 patients in Gaza who require evacuation, expressing disappointment at the limited number of patients who have been transferred for treatment amid the ongoing conflict. Many of these individuals are suffering from severe injuries, with some requiring amputations, indicating a critical strain on the healthcare system in Gaza.
The educational sector has also been severely impacted, with reports indicating that more than 112 schools and universities have been destroyed, and over 500 teachers have been killed. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reported that 625,000 children, including 300,000 UNRWA students, have lost an entire academic year due to the war. With 80% of school buildings in Gaza damaged or destroyed, the need for repair and reconstruction is urgent as the humanitarian crisis deepens.
As the conflict continues, the situation in Gaza remains dire, with widespread famine looming and a desperate need for international action to alleviate the suffering of its inhabitants.
