Netanyahu Takes Responsibility for Controversial Operations
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly acknowledged his role in the recent military operations against Hezbollah, which included the detonation of pagers and the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Despite significant opposition from senior officials within his government and warnings from the United States, Netanyahu stated that he proceeded with these actions during a government meeting. The operations, carried out on September 17 and 18, resulted in numerous casualties, with dozens killed and thousands wounded in Lebanon.
Lebanon's Response to Israeli Attacks
In response to the deadly operations, the Lebanese government has lodged a formal complaint with the United Nations’ International Labour Organization, labeling the attacks as an act of war against humanity. Caretaker Labour Minister Mustafa Bayram emphasized the gravity of the situation, asserting that the attacks targeted not only military assets but also civilian technology and infrastructure. Following the announcement of Nasrallah's assassination, Netanyahu claimed that Hezbollah is now significantly weakened compared to previous years.
Escalating Conflict and Military Operations
Since September 23, Israel has intensified its military campaign against Hezbollah, including targeted airstrikes on strongholds in southern Beirut and ground incursions into southern Lebanon. The Israeli government aims to dismantle Hezbollah's presence in border areas and prevent rocket fire into its territory. Netanyahu has indicated that a withdrawal of Hezbollah fighters to the north of the Litani River is necessary to facilitate the return of approximately 60,000 displaced persons from northern Israel.
As tensions continue to rise, the international community is closely monitoring the situation, particularly the implications of Israel's military actions and the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Lebanon.
