Serious Pedestrian Accident in Orsay, Essonne
A tragic incident occurred in Orsay, Essonne, on Thursday afternoon when a motorist struck three pedestrians, leaving them seriously injured. The accident took place around 1:30 p.m. on rue Louis-Scocard, near Place de la République, as the victims were crossing a pedestrian crossing. Reports indicate that the driver was traveling at a very high speed when he lost control of his vehicle, resulting in the collision.
The three victims, all retirees aged between 74 and 89, were quickly attended to by emergency services. Two of the victims, a 89-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man, were reported to have a
very engaged
vital prognosis at the time of their transport to the hospital. The third victim, a 74-year-old woman, was hospitalized but is not in life-threatening condition.
Following the incident, traffic in the area was halted, and a large-scale rescue operation involving two SMUR teams, 17 firefighters, and both national and municipal police was initiated. The Socialist mayor of Orsay, Rémi Darmon, praised the swift response of emergency services.
Investigation Underway for Hit-and-Run Incident
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, which is being handled by the Palaiseau police station. The Évry prosecutor's office has opened a case for
unintentional injuries followed by incapacity for more than three months
due to the driver's actions, which included fleeing the scene. Surveillance footage captured the motorist entering the square at high speed before losing control and hitting the pedestrians, who had the right of way. After the collision, the driver briefly exited the vehicle before returning and fleeing the scene.
As the investigation continues, police are working to identify the driver, and the video surveillance footage is being utilized as critical evidence in the case.
