The Mont Blanc Tunnel is set to undergo significant renovations starting September 2, 2024, with a complete closure for 15 weeks until December 16, 2024. This essential construction aims to restore the tunnel's vault and ensure safer connectivity between Italy and France. The project, which involves a total investment of 50 million euros, will be executed in two phases, focusing on 600 meters of the tunnel's structure.
The closure period has been strategically chosen to minimize the impact on tourism and the economy, as autumn typically sees the lowest traffic levels. The tunnel, which spans 11.6 kilometers and serves thousands of vehicles daily, will conduct experimental work to determine the best operational methods for future renovations. Alternative routes will be provided for travelers during this time.
